About Oolong Tea Home
An independent reference site on oolong tea. Caffeine figures come from USDA FoodData Central, and nothing here is medical advice or paid placement.
What this site covers
The site is organised around the questions people actually type: how much caffeine is in a cup, what water temperature to use, which variety to buy, and what the difference is between oolong and green or black tea. Everything else on it exists to answer those four properly.
- The oolong tea guide — what the category is and how it is made.
- Caffeine — per-cup numbers and what changes them.
- Brewing — temperature, ratios and steep times.
- Varieties — the four regional families.
- Buying — how not to be mis-sold.
How the numbers are sourced
Caffeine figures come from USDA FoodData Central, which publishes per-serving values for brewed tea alongside the range those values sit inside. Where a number comes from a single study rather than a reference database, the study is named on the page. Extraction data — how much caffeine leaves the leaf at one minute versus six — comes from research published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Processing and variety information reflects how oolong is actually made in Anxi, Wuyi, Phoenix Mountain and Taiwan, and it is reviewed annually. Where producers disagree or a figure is a band rather than a measurement, the page says so rather than pretending to precision. Oxidation percentages in particular are judged by eye in the field, not measured by instrument, and are quoted as ranges for that reason.
What this site is not
It is not a health resource. Tea is a food, and the pages here describe research findings rather than making claims. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and no page should be read as a reason to start, stop or change any treatment. The benefits and weight loss pages state this explicitly, because those are the two topics where tea marketing most often crosses the line.
It is also not a shop. There is no checkout, no affiliate link dressed up as an editorial pick, and no vendor paying for placement. If that ever changes, the page that changed will say so at the top.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, say so on the contact page. Corrections get made and acknowledged. Tea writing on the internet is full of numbers copied from other websites without a source, and the way that stops is someone checking.
